What is mesothelioma?

It's a cancer, a rare cancer, that can develop in the lining of your organs. Almost 3,000 people a year are diagnosed with mesothelioma.

There are three main types of mesothelioma:

  1. Pleural (lining of the lungs)
  2. Peritoneal (lining of the abdomen)
  3. Pericardial (lining of the heart)

How do you get mesothelioma?

Exposure to asbestos is the most common cause of mesothelioma. Many people can be exposed to asbestos many different ways. Whether its working directly hands on with asbestos on the job, around others working with asbestos or even bringing asbestos dust home and doing the loved ones laundry, one can be exposed. Once in contact, a person may breathe in or inhale the asbestos dust.

What are the symptoms of mesothelioma?

Shortness of breath, weight loss, difficulty breathing, difficultly swallowing, severe pain in your abdomen region, pain below the rib cage, fluid in the lungs and more.
